As we mentioned earlier last week, firmware 2.2 for both iPhone 2G (first generation) and 3G is now out and available for download.

Improved sound quality of Visual Voicemail messages

Pressing Home button from any Home screen displays the first Home screen

Preference to turn on/off auto-correction in Keyboard Settings

However, if you are planning on jailbreaking or unlocking your iPhone or have already done so for ANY of the previous firmware releases, we suggest you hold back for just a bit, because the current supporting softwares for jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone 2.1 do not yet support the latest firmware 2.2.

We expect further updates regarding the above issue to be available very soon!

If you thought the Lego V8 engine was cool, the Lego Safe is probably one of the best Lego gadgets we have featured here thus far. The Lego Safe is no gimmick and as you will see in the video, it really is a proper safe, don’t let the Lego bricks fool you into thinking that its only a toy. It’s got alot of neat features like digital display, motorised automatic locking and unlocking and closing / opening of the door, motion sensors and believe it or not, it has 30L of internal space for storage!

Put away your valuables in this Lego Mindstorms NXT Safe and nobody ever can get even close to it! This 6,5 Kilogram heavy weight SAFE has an electronic code lock. Five double digit codes are required to open the lock. The dial (left-hand wheel) is direction sensitive. Thus 35 to the left is something else than 35 to the right. Only one out of more than 305 Billion code combinations is unlocking the door!

Here’s a quick quote from our source, find out more from the link below!

The primary purpose of A-GPS SIM is to provide accurate positioning information of the phone to emergency services in case of an emergency call as required by E112 and E911 legislation in the EU and the U.S. respectively. In addition to this, it can support generic location-based services such as navigation, ‘find a place or person’ services, location-aware games, and many more.

Google’s latest Google Mobile iPhone app caused quite a big buzz over the weekend just because it wasn’t approved by Apple in time for Friday which was when it was expected. Now that it’s out and free for download from the App Store, I had a chance to download it and see whether the excitement was actually worth it. The much anticipated Google app basically is a search app for the iPhone with the extra special functionality that lets users to speak into their iPhones to submit search to Google’s search engine, which can serve up both standard search results as well as movie showtimes, addresses, and other handy information. While most users did not seem to have any problem with voice recognition, it seems clear that much work still needs to be done for searches involving multiple words for example, as the application takes ages just to recognise the wrong words!

And this is not the end of all the critique, as Jason from TechCrunch have mentioned…

My biggest issue with the app is that there is apparently no way to use the voice detection feature to call a contact, despite the fact that you can search through contacts using manual text entry. One of my biggest gripes about the iPhone is that there’s no way to make a hands-free call, and while this would still require at least one buttonpress, it would be an improvement.

I suppose we shouldn’t have that much of an expectation to take it for granted that Google’s application should provide voice recognise for our iPhone contacts. Afterall these have nothing to do with Google, it sounds more like an issue that should be built in to the iPhone and addressed by Apple altogether, instead of having the functionality imported from different applications just to fill in bits of missing gaps of a puzzle. Nevertheless, the app does seem promising and makes it quite convenient to browse the internet and your onboard contacts, so I would highly recommend you give it a try, afterall it’s free!

Click here and the link should take you directly to iTunes. Alternatively, if you’re using your iPhone now, just tap into the App Store and you should be able to find it by simply searching “Google”.

You’ve seen the gallery and video of the LG KC910 which we featured recently, now here’s yet another one which features its elegant packagings get unwrapped. Though I’m not sure why LG decided to call it Renoir (a French painter I believe), it certainly has lived up to my expectations as the successor to the Viewty. Check out the gallery and you’ll see what I mean…

If you find it difficult sometimes to get to sleep at night (insomnia), here’s a good excuse to make use of your belove it iPhone while in bed. aSleep is an application designed to generate soothing sounds to relax the person desiring sleep and to drown out any other sounds that might disturb your sleep. It has a timer function for controlling how long the sounds should last and by default the timer is set to 15 hours. The volume of sound produced by aSleep on the iPhone’s speaker is quite good and there is a huge range of sounds to choose from. Of course, this won’t work for the iPod Touch, as there isn’t an external speaker.

Here’s a video demo…

So, if aSleep sounds like something that could interest you, you might be happy to know that it’s currently available for download via iTunes App Store for just 59p, which isn’t too bad if you’re sleep deprived!

A few months back, Optoma announced the first Pico projector based on the DLP Pico chipset and said that it would be in limited distribution in Europe and Asia in late 2008, with a worldwide launch in 2009.

Smaller than most smart phones, this new micro-portable projector fits in your palm and is the ideal companion to ultra-portable media devices such as iPods, PDA’s, smart phones and digital cameras. Optoma’s Pico Projector utilizes the latest LED technology resulting in a colorful and vivid image. The small and powerful unit is based upon DLP technology assuring the highest possible contrast.

As you will see in the demo video which was tipped into us. Once connected to a mobile device, the four-ounce Optoma Pico Projector allows users to share photos and videos and enjoy a far better visual experience with an image that is up to 100 times larger than the small screen of the source device.

Skip the recap of Optoma’s press release from June this year if you already know enough!

Optoma Introduces World’s First Pico Handheld Projector
Based on Texas Instruments’ DLP Pico® Chipset, Features Sleek Design and Extreme Portability

LAS VEGAS, NV (June 18, 2008) – Optoma, a leading manufacturer of award-winning digital projection and display devices, introduces the first Pico projector based on the DLP Pico chipset. Smaller than most smart phones, this new micro-portable projector fits in your palm and is the ideal companion to ultra-portable media devices such as iPods®, PDA’s, smart phones and digital cameras.

When connected to an ultra-mobile device, the four-ounce Optoma Pico Projector allows users to share photos and videos, and enjoy a far better visual experience with an image that is up to 100 times larger than the small screen of the source device.

“The Pico Projector is the next step in sharing visual media for today’s ultra-mobile consumers. Fitting in your shirt pocket, the Pico Projector can display pictures, videos or any content from a mobile media player or smart phone” says Jon Grodem, director of Product Management for Optoma. “Optoma’s Pico breaks free from the limitations of the 2 or 3 inch displays found on today’s mobile devices. This category defining projector creates a new benchmark for sharing content-on-the-go.”

Optoma’s Pico Projector utilizes the latest LED technology resulting in a colorful and vivid image. The small and powerful unit is based upon DLP technology assuring the highest possible contrast.

“The handheld Pico projector represents the latest advancement in the mobile device display industry. We view the Pico projector as a completely new and exciting market – one which dramatically expands the reach and potential of projection products into new end user applications,” says Dr. William Coggshall, founder and president of Pacific Media Associates.

The product will be first shown at Texas Instrument’s InfoComm 2008 booth C909 and will be available in limited distribution in Europe and Asia in late 2008, with a worldwide launch in 2009.

Talk about high tech gadgets, HTC is certainly on a role. For those who are addicted and just can’t stop from craving on the latest technology, HTC has announced the world’s first GSM/WiMAX headset. Unforunately, this may mean you will need to brush up your Russian, the device will be available only in Russia (at least for now) on the Yota Mobile WiMAX network. The MAX 4G appears similar to the super high-end HTC Touch HD that was recently announced with a large 3.8 inch 800×480 display and touch screen interface. The MAX 4G will support the Yota Video network and the device is capable of displaying up to nine TV channels simultaneously!

The HTC MAX 4G is the world’s first smartphone to feature the integration of GSM and WiMAX radios. With this integration the MAX 4G can switch seamlessly from GSM networks to Mobile WiMAX networks. With the addition of a SIM card, the MAX 4G can make voice calls over most GSM networks which makes it a very useful mobile to have for those visiting Europe.

The HTC MAX 4G features the same 3.8 inch, 800×480 WVGA touch screen display that is used in the HTC Touch HD. With the integrated GPS receiver you will always know exactly where you are, while the WiFi and WiMAX will ensure you have high-speed wireless data (you will be able to get proper data speeds of 70Mb/sec!).

The HTC MAX 4G is powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and is integrated with HTC´s TouchFLO 3D UI. The TouchFLO 3D UI turns Windows Mobile interface into a competent multimedia platform that should optimizes HTC MAX 4G´s 8GB of onboard storage.

HTC designed the MAX 4G for ultra high-speed access to video on demand, full track music downloads, online gaming, and file exchange for true broadband speeds.

HTC MAX 4G Features include:

Qualcomm ESM7206A 528 MHz processor

TouchFLO 3D interface

Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional

Integrated GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.0

5 megapixel camera with VGA front camera for conference calls

Its said the HTC MAX 4G will be shipping in Russia by the end of November for more than $1,000! Though, very typically, the company did not say when the Max 4G would be released in other parts of the globe.

The Miele S7 has LED lights to illuminate every place it reaches while you suck pizza crumbles, Lego pieces, and dead spiders thanks to a 1,800-watt engine, built-in sensors that adjust speed and height depending on the surface and a six-litre vacuum bag. The S7 has a twisting head design that allows it to turn into every direction possible, including laying down on the floor, completely flat.

Unlike other vacuum cleaners, this one comes with all the different accessories to clean special surfaces built in its own body. Therefore, there’s no need to go to the closet to get them.

The range includes five different models that vary in price and function from the lemon yellow S7210 at £249 to the LED-controlled S7580 pictured here at £370.

There is also a flap on the keyboard which is presumably there to hold the iPhone in place.

Although the BTleyMini sounds promising and convenient for texts and emails. I don’t think there are that many people that type so much on the iPhone to the extent that they would want to carry a separate keyboard along with the iPhone. Some businessmen might do but then most of them also have laptops and netbooks these days.

First of all we would just like to apologise to Andrea who sent us this demo of GoodSync version 7-5-2 to be reviewed, we’ve been having some trouble with our one and only PC after it was sent in, its given up on us! So as a result, you will probably notice from some of our screenshots, we’re doing this review using a freshly installed Windows XP Pro via VMware Fusion on a Mac!

Let’s first tell you what GoodSync is all about…

GoodSync, is the latest software in a series of highly reliable, easy to use products from Siber Systems, the makers of RoboForm. The program automatically synchronizes and backs up emails, photos, financial documents, MP3s and any other important files between desktops, laptops, servers, and external drives.

GoodSync uses an innovative synchronization algorithm to prevent file deletion, data loss, and eliminate duplicate files. GoodSync already enjoys numerous favorable reviews from both users and the press. Its powerful technology is remarkably easy to use, and is the only solution that offers true bi-directional synchronization.

Also it’s worth pointing out to those who aren’t used to the two terms sync and backup. The simple difference between synchronisation and backup is that backing up is a one way transfer, whereas in synchronisation, you’re performing a transfer process that’s two way and the end result is that both sources (computer folders which you have pre-specified for example) will have the same files.

So without further ado, let’s tell you what we thought of GoodSync. Just from first impressions, launching GoodSync was fast, no delays, we thought on first glance that it was simple but also professionally made and well thought out.

And if we take a closer look at what it’s doing to our virtual PC, for those who are cautious about memory usage, we can see that it’s consumption on system’s memory is very minimal:

We then give it a simple task to do in order to test it out. This task was a very common one, we wanted GoodSync to sync for us some music files from another computer on the same network to this computer via WiFi. The aim wasn’t to test out its transfer speed but to find out how it performed a job, as well as reliability, does it crash half way through, does it have bits of missing data at the end of the transfer process, etc…

Another feature I would like to point out is that you can ask GoodSync to perform multiple jobs at the same time by pressing the yellow plus button in the top left corner.

Of course this will compromise your system memory, but it’s not something we see in all synchronisation tools you come across these days.

Now that I have given GoodSync the location I would llike my files to be synced from, it immediately provides me with a tooltip pointing out to me as to where I need to press to select the local folder for files to arrive and this is great for those who just hate reading instructions or find it difficult to recognise what the next step required actually is. As soon as I have provided it with the two locations I would like my files to be synced, again it now points to me that my next action is to use the analyze function.

After quickly analyzing, it provides me with a data report like screen, telling me which folders and files will be synced, as well as the memory that I will require to complete this task, any conflicts or errors that it encountered that I should give attention to.

Another good thing about this feature is that now I can see which files it will be synchronising for me, I can easily right click on a file or folder on the left and tell it to exclude synchronisation for those if I had regrets. As oppose to some softwares which go ahead and sync automatically, you often end up finding out that files you didn’t want to get transferred got transferred anyway.

So now that I’ve just clicked on Sync, let’s see how much more system resource it’s using up:

Surprisingly it’s just taken a tiny fraction more.

I guess now is a good time to recap and show you what I’ve just done using an example instruction taken from GoodSync:

In addition GoodSync isn’t just for synchronising and backuping files from two computers. A key part of GoodSync’s value is the options that you can use to control when items are synced. For USB flashdrive / key users, the option of having a sync start whenever a key is inserted is a must have. The periodic scheduling down to a one-minute sync is also very useful.

Check out the instructions below:

In my opinion this is my favourite feature, not only because I loose USB flashdrives all the time, this feature will ensure that I have my lost files right where I want them as long as I have plugged it in for a sync recently.

GoodSync also gives you a simple check box option whether or not you want to propagate deletions across a sync pair. That is, if a file is deleted from one side of the sync, it’s up to the user (in the options) to choose whether or not the file should be deleted on the other side.

For those who were wondering whether GoodSync would work with other devices or servers. GoodSync does offer the same smooth functionality for FTPs, Amazon S3, WebDAV and also Windows Mobile. See screenshot below:

Did I mention our music transfer test went smoothly? After synchronising for us GoodSync also gave us a quick report, this is what I found useful. Especially if you plan on synchronising anything important, you would want to know which files or folders its missed out.

So in a short summary here are what we thought were the good points and the bad points:

Pros:

Good simple user interface

Runs smoothly, no instability issues

Only a tiny bit of your system memory resource will be required

Has some very useful features such as analysis, easy customisation for specified jobs

Supports multiple types of files sources and destinations such as FTPs, Amazon S3, WebDAV and also Windows Mobile

A reliable tool for those who need to sync priceless pictures, files and data

Cons:

None! No issues were identified

Some past reviews commented that “some configuration menus are quite heavy, with loads of text explaining each option” (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=5941), but we felt this has been much improved on the latest release which we tested

Unfortunately, no support for Macs

We weren’t asked to give a rating, however if we needed to, GoodSync would easily deserve a rating of 5/5 from us. So if you’re looking for a software that’s reliable for transferring, synchronising and backing up important files across different devices or servers, no matter what type of files, we would definitely recommend you try out GoodSync.

Though it isn’t free, the download is just 1.05Mb and supports Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista, you can test out its 30-day trial with no limitations or restrictions, click here to find out more via GoodSync…
