Review: SanDisk Mobile Ultra 8GB microSDHC / memory stick M2 card with reader
Big title, I know. This is a review of the two memory cards along with the card readers which were sent to us about a month ago, somehow we thought it was already published!?
Anyways, in this review, we’ll be focusing more on the microSDHC, as both have the same specs and features, the only difference between the two is that the M2 has been specifically created for Sony Ericsson mobiles.
The SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC 8GB promises fast speeds to get video, music and images from the PC to the card and from the device to the card swiftly. To make the transfer of files and data to and from the PC and your device even faster, the SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC 8GB ships with the tiny MobileMate USB microSDHC card reader.
As you can see in the gallery, this card reader is incredibly small, making it highly portable. Gone are the days when you needed to carry around with you a memory card adapter, which required a further USB memory card reader or built in memory card readers on laptops or PCs, with this MobileMate USB card reader, all you need to get your files transferring is a USB slot.
Since ‘fast transfer’ was one of SanDisk’s main selling point, a simple test we performed to test the card reader was to transfer some video files. We took some video files which totalled up to be approx. 1.5GBs and tested how long it would take to complete its transfer. For a control test, we did the same but instead of using the new card reader we used an old fashion microSD adapter along with a standard five in one multiple memory card USB reader.
The result? The new card reader took 1:47 minutes to transfer, as for the control, the whole transfer took just ten seconds more. A very slim difference but in our opinion this makes a whole lot of difference, not only do you need to carry around with you an additional card reader and adapter, it’s pretty risky if either one of these start to malfunction when you need it the most.
Check out the gallery below, the new MobileMate USB card reader is really convenient to have around and is definitely our choice, it can practically be used combined with your memory card as a flash drive. For a card reader its size, I’d say it tucks in on the memory card quite well, without ever worrying that your memory card might unexpected fall out. But as you can imagine, its strength is probably also its weakness, it’s so tiny, you can loose it without ever knowing where you lost it!
