Samsung U900 Soul, Sony Ericsson C902 and Nokia N96 - three prestigious mobile phones set to launch in the UK soon and more!!!
As most will know, we in the United Kingdom usually get the latest in technology such as mobiles and other devices one step later than those lucky ones from the US so whenever news like this comes up, geeky bloggers like us get quite excited! This latest news just in, the three mobiles as titled have been noted as ‘coming soon’ on the Phones4u website as well as the Carphone Warehouse website. I have to say, even Phones4u which tends not to update as regularly, have decided to put these three phones up on their site, a possible indicator for their potential?
While Phones4u have not commented anything on possible arrival dates, we have managed to find these on the Carphone Warehouse page, here’s a quick list of what should be their expected arrival dates:
Samsung U900 Soul: 23rd April 2008
Sony Ericsson C902: June 2008
Nokia N96: August 2008
For others who may also be interested in upcoming latest phones which may be released in the near future, here’s a list sorted according to arrival month:
May 2008
- Sony Ericsson T280i
- Samsung F480
- Motorola MOTO Z10
- Nokia N78
June 2008
- Samsung G810
July 2008
- Motorola ROKR E8
- Sony Ericsson G900
If you don’t know much about the phones I mentioned such as the Samsung U900 Soul, the Sony Ericsson C902 or the Nokia N96, then I guess it would be quite difficult to understand what all the fuss is about. So below is just an overview to what they are about and of course some preview demo videos I picked off YouTube to show why they are so special…
To start off with the Samsung U900 Soul has the following key features:
- 5 megapixel autofocus, face detection, wide dynamic range and image stabilization)
- 2.2″ 16M-color TFT LCD display of QVGA resolution
- 3G with HSDPA (7.2Mbps) support
- Touchpad navigation
- Cool looks
- FM radio with RDS
- 128MB of shared memory and microSD slot
- Wide dynamic range and image stabilization in camera
As you will see in this video (and the rest) I think the U900 Soul is probably the best in terms of style, design and camera functionality, even in GSMArena’s review, they stated that the U900 Soul had a proper camera that matched the quality of that of the Nokia N95 8GB, which was their chosen winner for their recent 5-MP shootout… Probably what I don’t like about it is that it doesn’t have WiFi, it’s only tri-band and Samsung still prefers not to put in a more advanced browser into its phones of this type. Also the exterior of it is great (stainless stain!) but what you get in return is all your fingerprints get smudged over it!
The Sony Ericsson C902 is an excellent thin, lightweight candybar that I think offers alot for something its size, but the only thing that it doesn’t have is a proper good looking style.
Here are some of its key features:
- 5 MP, 2592×1944 pixels, autofocus, image stabiliser, video (QVGA@30fps), flash; secondary videocall camera
- 2 inch TFT, 256K colors display of QVGA resolution
- Just 10.5 mm thin and 107 g in weight
- Has 160 MB of internal memory
- Uses Memory Stick Micro (M2)
- Available in Swift Black or Luscious Red (picture above)
I think what is most shocking to me is that this is a really cool phone, its going to be one of the first Cyber-shot phones in the new C series, its made a massive jump from the last series of Cyber-shot phones in terms of size, yet it would be very difficult for me to comment on its looks when compared to the other two in this quick review. The European version of the phone will be the one with HSDPA (3.6 Mbps), while unfortunately those for America (Sony Ericsson C902a) and China Mainland (Sony Ericsson C902c) will lack HSDPA support. Again this phone does not have WiFi, but I suppose the main reason is to stress that this will be a proper Cyber-shot camera phone.
Rightly so, the C902 is equipped with eight touch sensitive keys around its display that specifically serve to function only when in camera mode, photographers will definitely find this new feature entertaining!
Last but not least the Nokia N96, probably the one that’s been spoken most about here on our blog, it was previously rumoured all round different blogs about what it could possibly look like, each rumour had a different design as well! (One example can be found here…) But here’s what it really looks like folks:

Though Nokia tends not to make amazingly slim phones like Samsung or Sony Ericsson, they have made an effort to slim down the N96 by 3 mm and 3 g compared to the N95 8GB, so here are some of the features that I think makes it a highly competitive mutli-functional phone…
- 5 MP, 2592×1944 pixels, Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, video(VGA 30fps), flash; secondary VGA videocall camera
- 2.8 inches, 240 x 320 pixels, TFT, 16M colors display
- Quadband, HSDPA, GPRS, EDGE,
- It’s phonebook has basically unlimited entries and fields
- A whooping 16 GB internal memory, 128MB RAM, 256MB storage memory
- Cardslot for microSD, supporting up to 8GB
- Not to mention WiFi!
- Uses Symbian OS 9.3
