iPhone dev team releases official 1.1.3 jailbreak upgrader…

1 February 2008 No Comment

If you’re looking at this post, you are probably still pondering about whether or not to upgrade to the recent iPhone / iPod Touch 1.1.3 update and go for the 1.1.3 jailbreak which was released last week. Like many, the chances are that you must be worried about problems such as bricking or locking up your device. Hopefully in this post, by explaining and introducing the “Official 1.1.3 Upgrader” we will be able to help you make up your mind :)

So here is how it works, if you already have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch running the last firmware: 1.1.2, the iPhone dev team has now released a quick and easy way for you to upgrade straight from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3. The Official 1.1.3 Upgrader is an automatic, graphical method for upgrading to a jailbroken 1.1.3 device without any host computer interaction.

You might have read about something similar to this called ?iJailbreak?, it’s another similar jailbreak method not requiring any host computer at all but rather a solution not recommended by the iPhone dev team - so definitely don’t opt for the iJailbreak! What iJailbreak does is that it uses the same process as Nate True’s hack, meaning it breaks Nikita. (Nikita is the crucial component on the iPhone / iPod Touch responsible for installing signed official software, such as the iPod App Pack and SDK applications in the near future. And it is this component which ?Nate True?s jailbreak has disrupted.)

Anyway, the new method that we’re explain: Official 1.1.3 Upgrader, preserves Nikita and is also less prone to error. So here is how to use it…

On your jailbroken iPhone / iPod Touch 1.1.2, simply launch Installer, then go to All Packages, then select and install Official 1.1.3 Upgrader. Make sure you are sufficiently connected to your WiFi connection before doing this. All necessary files will be downloaded directly to the iPhone/iPod Touch and the jailbreak process automatically performs.
