The iPhone Dev Team breaks free iPhone v1.1.1!!!

Apple iPhone

The iPhone is once again free! Following the not so hopeful jailbreak for iPhone v1.1.1 yesterday by a non-Dev Team (possibly called the ‘Elite’ iPhone Team), we now have one that does a much better job of breaking free the Apple iPhone firmware v1.1.1.

However, before I go on to summarise this new v1.1.1 unlocking method there is one bad news… this new hack is not applicable to those who used anySIM or iUnlock to unlock your iphone, if you do use it, it will brick your iPhone! (<–See update at the bottom) For everyone who used hacks like TurboSIM, IPSF Paid solution, etc… you will be able to use it.

Although this method isn’t yet absolutely perfect and still need to deal with the iPHUC command line tool, this method does allow your iPhone to sync with iTunes on your PC as soon as the jailbreak is complete.

Which means in this method:

  • You will actually be able to activate your iPhone
  • The code is left open and this can be used by software developers for incorporating into their own applications
  • Easier to install third-party applications on v1.1.1?

Here’s the latest update 11/10/2007:

iPhoneSimFree has released a new update to their software which unlocks iPhones that have been bricked as a result of using anySIM / iUnlock and the v1.1.1 update. iPSF claims their update has been successful thanks to Dev Team’s jailbreak app.

People who already unlocked the iPhone with iPhoneSimFree just need to jailbreak their iPhones and activate because, according to them: “there’s no need to re-apply the unlock because the unlock survives the firmware upgrade. It’s permanent.”
